I have a long wordy post waiting to be written later tonight, so I thought I'll just do a quick little update for now. This is MAD MEN's opening title re-design by Paul Rogers. I saw this over at Laughing Squid and thought it looked great but I am wondering whether it is official or not. Still it looked amazing and is totally post-worthy so I couldn't hesitate. I can't wait until the show comes on air again.
I hear so much about Mad Men, but haven't been able to see any of it! I really want to though. All of the clothes they wear are stunning.
ReplyDeleteLoving the redesign if it is official. I love how the imagery correlates to each character and what they are known for. I also can't wait for the show to return, but I'm glad to have Breaking Bad to hold me over in the meantime!
ReplyDeleteHmmm I guess I'll have to play's devil's advocate here. While I do love the redesign as its own separate piece, I don't really like it with Mad Men. Maybe it's just familiarity with the more mellow title sequence that's been artfully carrying us through all four seasons (and the pilot too if my memory is correct). However, I feel that this one is more fitting of a light-hearted yet offbeat sixties comedy or some sort of debonair 007 type spy show. Not going to lie, unless I was absolutely blown away I'd feel it unnecessary to change the title since the "falling ad man" so closely alludes to Don's current situation.
ReplyDeleteWow that was a lot longer than expected! The Mad Men nerd in me just came out full force.
@Austere, by all means! I love hearing other side of the argument. Come to think of it, now they are suddenly changing the opening title does seem rather inconsistent (after four seasons of the same thing).
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Austere here. I think it's a tad bit happy? Not sure if that's the word I'm going for, but Mad Men is much more of a period drama that focuses on the struggles of each of the characters. While I do love the way the animation reflects each character and the minimalist animation, I think I've grown accustomed (in my head, I'm singing "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" ahahaha) to the slow tempo-ed "A Beautiful Mine". I think if they combined those two elements, the redesign would be a winner.
ReplyDeleteAlso, want to thank you for introducing me to IvyStyle. I'm a huge fan of the Take Ivy book, so this blog is right up my alley.
I kind of agree that it seems a little too happy for Mad Men but, then again, the show is going in a new direction: new wife for Don, new house for Betty, new image for the firm, new baby for Joan, etc. I do think the show needs a change just because it's a different era from when the show started off during (lingering 50s v. swinging 60s). I'm really looking forward to the new season no matter the opening!
